About Brooke
As a beginner we focus on your needed skill set improvement. One on one coaching. I started looking for training and couldn't figure out if I met the prerequists for the classes I was looking at. With one on one coaching you know that we are working on what you need.
I am a instructor, trainer, competitive shooter, and a Mom. Safety is number one. Building your confidence and skills are what you will walk away with.
I started in 2007 with the arrival of my second child. I knew that I needed to learn more about firearm safety for myself and my family. I have been training ever since.My goal here at A Great Start Shooting school is to get you confident with handguns and possibly introduce you to the world of competition.

I fell into it by accident. I needed insurance for my range and that is why I became an instructor. I was in the competition world and found A Girl & A Gun. They helped me build confidence and offer to teach others.
I am a NRA Training counsler, which means that I train instructors. I am also a NRA Pistol Instructor and IDPA safety officer. I am a competitior in many hadgun shooting sports. I have trained with too many to mention, and continue to train every year. I will attempt to cover some of the amazing teachers that I have had:Kay Clark Miculek, Lisa Munson, Sheila Brey, Lena Miculek, Debbie Keehart all from Babes with Bullets. Caleb Causey from Lone Star Medics, Mike Seeklander, Max Michel, Manny Bragg, Jay Hirshberg, Tatiana Whitlock, and more......

My students can schedule a FREE 10 minute assesment call to figure out what is best for them. Once a class is scheduled they will get emails and paperwork that need to be taken care of prior to the class. The emails have videos and information to help them know what to expect. Once here we hold the class and that is pretty much it.
I work with life long shooters who need some refinement in their shooting skills. I also work with folks who have never touched a gun. I have helped some people that have actual fear of guns as well. My youngest student is 3 years old and currently my oldest is 83.
When you are looking to hire an instructor, please ask them what they do for education. How do they expand their teaching? If someone is an "instructor" but doesn't expand thier knowledge on a regular basis would not be my 1st choice.
I enjoy my 1st timers and my experienced shooters. This year is the 1st year I have created new instructors, so that was fun too.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Make sure you know what you are looking for before you call to ask them. What is your outcome? Do you want basic handling skills? Do you want tactical? do you want a new hobby? Are you considering the shooting sports? If you don't know let them know that too.
