About Susan
I've worked for many years as a busy professional NYC singer, doing session work, clubs and bars, also traveling as a backup singer, and doing corporate gigs as well. I have many years of experience in the New York music scene. NYC singers have great pitch, and great presence, and they know how to be musicians within the bands they front, not just a diva trying to stand out.
My passion is performance and helping singers become better and more connected performers through vocal technique first and then really learning to live the song they're singing. And because singers can interact so much with audiences, they can deeply affect the vibe in a room, and this is an exciting skill to work towards.
I began about 13 years ago teaching at a music school called The Collective. From there, I developed my Vocal Performance Workshop, and my love of teaching singers to become great performers. I went on to teach my workshop in NYC, and in Denmark, Italy, Japan and China as well.
I have been singing and performing for 30 years, and teaching for 13. I teach what I know as a singer and as a performer. I have taught my Vocal Performance Workshop in New York City. Italy, Denmark, Japan and China, and taught at The Collective in NYC for 12 years.

I first assess where a student is in her/his singing, ask them their goals and make a plan from there, first with necessary vocal exercises, and then choosing a song to work on.
I want to say here that I do not work with children. Students must be 15 and older.
I've worked with many kinds of students from NYC and from abroad, students who both came to the U.S. and who I taught abroad. I have worked with the shyest of singers and gotten them to open up and sing their songs with passion in just one lesson. In a workshop, that was sometimes as little as 20 minutes!
I would want someone with a lot of experience and who knows how to teach what they know. Even on Zoom, there is so much I can teach about vocal technique and about a great vocal performance. Many years ago when I had my first vocal coach, he only taught vocal exercises, not how to apply them to actual singing. So you should look for a teacher who can teach technique and then how to apply it!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How serious are you about really applying yourself? Are you willing to learn vocal exercises and do them every day? Are you willing to take a song that might be just a bit out of your comfort zone and really apply what you're learning to singing that song better and with more connection?

Susan‘s teaching is something I have never experienced before.
