About Samantha Inez
I think the most unique thing about my studio is that I only accept viola students! Many teachers who are professional violists teach violin on the side. I choose not to. To focus on nurturing my students to become better violists and musicians, I dedicate myself to a single instrument. I hope to spread the joy and beauty that viola has to offer!
I enjoy watching my students grow and appreciate the process of learning the viola. A lot of people group together the violin and the viola as the same intrument—I seek to disprove that. Watching my students discover the complexity and nuances of the viola make my day and keep me teaching!
Upon graduating, I moved back to the state I grew up in to expose the music community to more viola! Growing up, I felt like there were gaps in my musical education before I attended college. I wanted to fill all of them to make sure the violists of Montana have an equal shot at music school as everyone else.
I hold a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from the University of Montana, and Master of Music Performance degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I studied under current principal violist of the San Francisco Symphony, Jonathan Vinocour. Since graduating, I have taught privately in Montana for three years, played for the Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale, String Orchestra of the Rockies, and the Yellowstone Chamber Players.

When I work with a new student, I talk to them and get to know their prior musical experiences, and how they tick as a learner. I try to tailor every student's lesson to fit their learning style. Once I have a good understanding of my student, I create a practice routine and a list of materials that would best benefit them. I take each lesson as it comes to ensure I listen to my student, and am able to provide them with suitable guidance and problem solving skills.
I have worked with a range of students, from 6 years old to 60 years old. Currently, my studio consists of students from ages 12 to 18. They are all at different skill levels.
