About Melissa
With an extensive background in gymnastics and dance, the transition to yoga was a path written in the stars for me. I first fell in love with the practice 5 years ago and since then, my yoga journey has helped me grow stronger, more flexible and fearless, both on and off the mat.
As I sought a deeper understanding of the practice, I knew I had to go to the heart of its origins to fully embrace the asanas and philosophy behind them. I am grateful to have completed my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at the Sarvaguna Yoga Dhaama in Dharamsala, India. Since receiving certification, I have enjoyed sharing my practice with groups of all sizes and ages, but I will always be a student, learning and growing every time I step on the mat.
In my classes, my goal is to provide a safe and positive environment that encourages students to explore their full potential and strengths. My hope is that you step off the mat feeling refreshed, nourished and balanced, while still yearning to return and learn more.
Growing up, my background was in both dance and gymnastics, so whenever the time came for me to transition to yoga it felt natural. After practicing for months at the local free yoga classes, I decided I wanted to make the commitment to become a teacher, since the majority of my friends had never taken a class in their life.
So I took the leap and traveled to Dharamsala, India where I received my 200 HR YTT license, specializing in Hatha and Vinyasa. There I dedicated a month to medication, asana practice, history, and philosophy.
Upon returning to the US, I taught classes in a few different ways, ranging in both sizes, ages, and settings. This includes but is not limited to: childrens Girl Scouts Yoga workshops, college sorority recruiting events, elderly yoga basics in a studio, and my favorite age group - people in their 20's/30's looking for a challenging workout. Typically, I taught Vinyasa and Ashtanga classes, but my style will vary greatly depending on the audience.
After teaching consistently for 3 years, I knew I wanted to learn more about the practice and dig deeper into what was taught. Starting in March 2020, I began working on my 500 HR YTT license, and simply need to give a few more classes to complete my training. During this session, my focus and final project was on connecting the mind to the body, utilizing the 7 chakras to become more mindful throughout the practice.

I will typically start with asking about their background, previous injuries, and goals that they want to achieve during my time with them (ex: increase flexibility, feel more at peace, achieve a specific asana/pose). Based on this, I will conduct a general class modified to what they would like to accomplish. One of the things I'm most proud of is my ability to change the class on the spot based on what my clients need.
