About Serena
Specialties
My focus is teaching you how to release symptoms of tension, including deep muscle contraction, due to stress and trauma that accumulate from daily living. Drawing upon several modalities, including TRE (Tension Release Exercise), Yoga, and Thomas Hanna Somatics, you'll experience balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system resulting in deep relaxation.
History
After completing her Kripalu Yoga Teacher Training in 2006, Serena's interest in pain relief and PTSD led her to investigate other modalities. Judith Lasater certified Serena in Yoga Therapeutics and as an Advanced Relax and Renew Trainer. Dr. David Berceli certified her a Provider of TRE (Tension/Trauma Relief Exercises.) A certificate in Trauma Sensitive Yoga with Dr. Bessel van der Kolk led her to attend workshops on the psoas with Liz Koch (The Psoas Book and Core Awareness.) Serena is a Somatic Educator in the Thomas Hanna tradition which informs all the modalities she calls upon, including leading Healing Yoga for Cancer Patients, Survivors, and Caregivers at the Penninsula Jewish Community Center (PJCC) that are free and open to the public. Serena teaches corporate, private and group classes on the mid-peninsula. She appeared in the Sept./Oct. 2013 issue of the Yoga Journal article on Bone Strengthening. She is the author of the Bob Chinn's Crab House Cookbook (Amazon.) Serena's methodology nurtures mindfulness, alignment, healing, wholeness, and fun.

In 2005 I was suffering from a variety of complaints, including fibromyalgia, tmj syndrome, sleep apnea, and allergies due to years of accumulated stress, and noticed that I felt better after going to yoga classes at the local gym. I attended a 30-day immersion yoga teacher training to deepen my own practice. I had no intention of teaching but was encouraged to substitute by the teachers with whom I practiced. At the end of a class I taught several students commented how much better they felt and I was hooked. Because of my own history I was able to empathize with them and taught from that space. I found my calling in aiding others on their journey to health. i hope you will give me the opportunity to share these valuable modalites with you.
