About Sebastian
My name is Dr Sebastian Tym and I am a professional historian and an academic, currently teaching in the HE sector in the UK. In my current role, I am Associate Lecturer in History and Art History at the University of Plymouth.
I hold a BA, a ResM (master's by research), and a PhD in the history of art, and am the recipient of a number of scholarship awards relating to my research on propaganda in the two French empires of the nineteenth century.
I have been teaching at universities since 2020, and before academia I worked in the heritage sector as a public lecturer and events coordinator in medieval and early modern castles across the southwest of England.
My subject specialisms are in history, history of art, and modern languages (French and Italian). I also write professionally about supporting neuro-diversity in Higher Education.

As a private tutor, I offer a wide range of support, from subject specific content, to essay writing, to breaking through into higher grade boundaries. I mainly cater to clients in Higher Education, but would welcome those at GCSE or Further Education level as well.
I am a specialist in catering to clients with ASD diagnoses. For many years now I have been involved in supporting young people with ASD in education, at first in collaboration with the National Autistic Society (NAS) in the UK, and more recently (since 2022), I have professionally written educational pamphlets for universities about supporting students on the autism spectrum.
My tutorials typically take place online, on the Superprof platform, or - if this is your preference - in person. Each session lasts for one hour with plenty of time for discussion at the end. Before I take on new clients, I will ask that we meet for a short, 10-15 minute (free) discussion of what their needs are and how I can best go about supporting them.

Perfect! My son felt very comfortable. He came out after the first lesson feeling calmer and having direction.
Perfect! Seb is an amazing tutor. He has provided me with great strategies to help write my essays and also is a pool of knowledge regarding art history , which has deeply expanded my understanding of the subject and only benefitted me as a student. He is always willing to help regarding any queries I may have. I highly recommend

I would definitely recommend Sebastian as an art history tutor. He is really patient and explains everything in a way that is easy to understand. He makes lessons interesting and has helped me feel much more confident with the subject. He is friendly, supportive, and genuinely wants his students to do well.
Sebastian is an outstanding art history tutor who explains complex material with clarity and patience. My lessons with him are engaging, well structured, and highly supportive, and they have greatly improved both my understanding of the subject and my confidence as a student. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated tutor.
