About Alexander
Hi, I'm Alex. Now more than ever is the ideal time to engage with music. Learn that tune you always wanted to, discover new sounds, release your inner improviser, improve technique, and plug into a beautiful universal language. I can assist you with your playing and learning goals. I’m university educated, have over 10 years teaching experience across all ages and levels, and freelance professionally. Lessons are conducted online through Zoom. I can teach you no matter where you are in the world. Put the kettle on, brush off the case, and let’s go. More about me: Born and raised in Adelaide, Australia, Alexander Ioakim was exposed to music from a young age through his grandpa and uncle. He went on to study a Bachelor of Music majoring in Jazz Performance – Saxophone at the Elder Conservatorium at the University of Adelaide graduating with First Class Honours in 2015. Alex has studied in the USA under acclaimed musicians Ben Wendel, Walter Smith III and Will Vinson. Alex’s wide and varied freelance portfolio has seen him perform with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, musical theatre, cabaret and dance productions, as well as numerous jazz, funk, pop and soul bands across a variety of settings. Alex has over 10 years private instrumental teaching experience, privately and at various schools (primary and secondary). His teaching style is calm, structured, and focused, allowing students to achieve their best in an enjoyable atmosphere. He is registered with the AMEB and has guided many students to successful exam results.

Within lessons, I strive to balance meaningful and practical musical development with technical improvement. Underlining everything though is to share in the satisfaction of music making. Enjoy those feel-good feelings and the stress release that is associated with playing an instrument. Learning music is fun, but does require focus, patience, and commitment. The rewards are worth it. Let’s focus on: A wide range of styles, including classical, jazz, funk, pop, Latin, + others Specific songs and pieces Transcription service available for music you don’t have Improvisation Rhythm Tone Technique Band repertoire Music theory Aural (listening) skills Any additional aspect, you name it, or let me guide you Each lesson includes follow-up teacher’s notes and appropriate supplementary materials sent to you via email.

Perfect! Alex is my 3rd tutor after my initial 2, over 3 lessons. I learned more today in the complimentary session; I also learned I was developing some bad habits through not knowing. I am looking forward to the journey now with confidence.
- Willing to put in the time and actively seeking out improvement. Punctual and organised.Alexander's response :
