About VIJAY

Hi, I am a FIDE-rated chess player and coach have been playing chess for over 12 years. My current ratings include 2300+ on Lichess, 2000+ on Chess.com, and 1600+ FIDE. I have won several state and national-level medals, including the Inter-NIT Chess Tournament (2021), the All State School Competition (2016), and a silver medal in the CPA Tournament 2023 held in Jaipur.

I also have coaching experience at the National Institute of Technology, where I trained both children and adults, along with 5+ years of experience with different organizations such as ChessBrainz and Hobspace.

My teaching approach focuses on keeping session interactive and engaging while building strong fundamentals through a structured method.

Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?
As a chess tutor, I teach the strategic board game of chess, which nurtures critical thinking and decision-making skills. My interest in chess began at a young age, captivated by its elegant simplicity and infinite possibilities. Witnessing the game's positive impact on my cognitive abilities inspired me to become a tutor, sharing the joy of chess and helping students grow both on and off the board.
What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?
My motivation to teach chess stems from my passion for the game and the joy it brings me. Sharing this enthusiasm with others and witnessing the positive impact on their cognitive abilities inspire me to be a chess tutor.
How does your work help society?
My work as a chess tutor helps society by fostering critical thinking and analytical skills. It enhances decision-making abilities and problem-solving techniques, leading to more capable and intellectually engaged individuals. These skills have a positive impact on both the personal and professional aspects of my students' lives.
If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?
Viswanathan Anand, the World Chess Champion, is my role model. His dedication to chess, strategic brilliance, and ability to inspire others align with my approach to teaching and fostering a love for chess in my students.
Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.
Outside teaching, I like reading self-help books very much and apart from that I also like to play cricket.
Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?
I want to share one of my experiences which use to tell everyone whenever someone asks me. So it is about one of my past students Aayan who was very talented and but as he belonged to a small village he was not able to get guidance related to chess. As he was very talented and interested in chess one of my colleagues told me about then I started giving class for him 2-3 hours a day now he is a national chess player and I am very happy for him that he made me and his family proud.
