About Slaven
With over 25 years of experience in competitive chess and a FIDE International Master (IM) title, I possess a knowledge of the game that I am happy about passing on to my students. I am also a certified FIDE Instructor (FI) with over 8 years of professional coaching experience. Throughout my career, I have successfully trained over 50+ students worldwide, ranging from absolute beginners to competitive players rated up to 2200 FIDE.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in a deeply personalized approach. I believe that truly understanding each student's unique thinking process is the key to uncovering their hidden weaknesses and creating an optimal development plan. While tournament success is important, my primary focus centers on mastering the learning process, building discipline, and maximizing daily effort, because I believe results naturally follow consistent, high-quality work.
I will assist you with building a solid opening repertoire tailored to your personal style, enhancing your tactical vision, improving calculation methods, and reducing blunders. Additionally, we will focus on strategy and positional play, making it much easier for you to formulate concrete middlegame plans and find effective ways to execute them, while continuously improving your endgame techniques.
Over the years, many of my students have made significant improvements and podium finishes in official tournaments.

Perfect! Slaven to me has been more than an instructor and professor in my chess journey in the last decade, he's been a special mentor. With his humble and thoughtful approach to my chess playful style, that even differs a lot from his, he guided me to become a more consistent player and showed me interesting openings and techniques in general that would match my chess personality.
I would really recommend Slaven, he's a super fast paced guy on the interior, but that doesn't transpire in his chess teaching - only moderation, meaningfullness and vision for his students!- As a devoted family man balancing a demanding corporate career, it is inspiring how Slobodan still finds the time and energy for his hobby, managing to improve his chess game.Slaven's response :

Slaven is a fantastic coach!
We have both started giving lessons at a similar time, shared our experiences and figured ways to improve our teaching ability for many years now.
We both actively played competitive chess during this time, and Slaven helped me a lot with his opening work and new ideas, and he was an admirable sparring partner!
His greatest quality is the mix of his knowledge (which he used to become a strong International Master), and the amazing ability to pass it to the student (which is the most important thing coach should have), and he would be my top recommendation if you are looking for a coach.
