I am a filmmaker and lecturer who has worked at Falmouth University for the last three years. I teach across the film and television degrees in a variety of subjects.

About Dean
I am a filmmaker and lecturer at Falmouth University. I started my own company, Grasp The Nettle Films in 2010 and spent a decade making documentaries, including an adaptation of Dr Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed’s book ‘The Crisis of Civilization,' through to three ethnographic documentaries, ‘Grasp the Nettle’, ‘Honey at the Top’ and ‘The AutistiX’ for The Guardian.
I then moved into fiction, writing and directing a crop of short genre films, ‘The Sermon’, ‘Satan’s Bite’, ‘Circles’, and most recently ‘Seagull’. I am currently working on a slate of feature film projects including folk horror ‘Magpie’ which was one of the 2018 iFeatures projects, developed with assistance from BBC Films & BFI, and is now in active late-stage development with Bankside Films. In addition to Magpie I am currently writing the feature length version of ‘Seagull’, a vampire movie, set on the English Riviera which is in Development with BFI NETWORK & Early Day Films (Bait).
My work has picked up several awards and Vimeo Staff picks with ‘Satan’s Bite' winning the 2018 Straight8 competition and premiering at the Cannes Film festival.
I have personally supervised three BFI future film festival award winning producers and directors and I have also spent the last seven years as a part-time senior support worker in mental health, supporting adult schizophrenics.
