About Derek
The best compliment I ever received as a professor was when a student in the nursing program wrote to me after completing a two-term sequence with me in general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry.

I usually work through example problems with the student while we attempt to anticipate what topics and questions are likely to appear.
Every meeting is a two-way discussion.
The goal is not simply to arrive at the correct answer, but also to be able to explain *why* it is correct.
