About Max
Hello! My name is Max, and I'm a college student pursuing a B.S. in Finance at the University of Miami. I graduated from Mamaroneck High School (Mamaroneck, NY) where I was part of a select group of seniors chosen to help tutor students for the SAT and AP Calculus AB exam. I took the SAT twice during my junior year and scored a 1490 (710 EBRW, 780 Math) on my second attempt; I also sat for the AP Calculus AB exam where I received a perfect 5. While the countless online practice exams were certainly helpful in achieving those scores, I quickly learned that a conceptual understanding of the material combined with good timing was far more beneficial when it comes to doing well on the exam. I strongly believe that every student has a unique learning style and that a "one-size-fits-all" way to scoring high on the SAT, or any test in general, simply doesn't exist. If you are interested, I am offering tutoring sessions to help your high schooler prepare for the SAT or AP Calculus AB exam. In short, my job as a tutor is to help you achieve the highest possible score. But in order to do that, I must first figure out what style of learning you respond to best. Some prefer visual cues, while others learn by reading/writing. Every person is different, and no two are alike. Period. After that is set, the next step will be to take a full practice test to see what your starting point is and how much improvement can be achieved. I prefer not to set unrealistic expectations for students, so if your baseline SAT score is 1200, a 1500+ is doable, but it would require months of dedicated effort. As a tutor, I believe that the key to a high score stems from having a conceptual understanding. In the end, memorizing formulas can only get you so far. Combined with the pressure of actually taking the exam, knowing what the question is asking you and why the answer makes sense fundamentally will take you much further, I promise. This way, even if memory fails, you are still able to solve problems on the fly. I would say the typical lesson plan would generally be to identify specific areas that need improvement and work on questions within that topic, but it ultimately depends on the student's individual needs.
