About Lisa
Tutoring French allows me to combine structure with spontaneity, logic with creativity, and rules with real-world expression. My teaching philosophy centers around providing students with a clear roadmap to fluency—one that adapts to their individual strengths and needs while keeping them motivated and connected to the material. I guide students through grammar in logical sequences—starting with subject-verb agreement, present tense verbs, and negation, and building up to conditionals and subjunctives—all while incorporating each concept into practical speech and writing tasks. I constantly balance instruction with interaction, using prompts, games, and real-time conversations to reinforce fluency. My sessions are built around high-engagement strategies: music, visuals, articles, debates, cultural comparisons, and storytelling. I particularly enjoy helping students become comfortable with pronunciation and rhythm, and I use phonetic tips, audio mimicking, and pronunciation apps to support those working on their accent. One memorable experience was with a teenage student who wanted to prepare for a French theater audition. We worked on both grammar and dramatic reading, blending language learning with performance techniques—and they not only got the part but continued studying French with renewed purpose. I maintain a supportive, flexible atmosphere in which students feel free to take risks and express themselves. Whether helping someone with academic needs or preparing a traveler for a trip abroad, I aim to make learning French a positive, enriching, and empowering experience. My ultimate goal is to help each student become an autonomous learner who enjoys speaking, writing, and thinking in French both inside and beyond the classroom.

My approach to teaching French is founded on blending structured grammar instruction with real-world communicative practice that engages and motivates learners. I start by breaking down essential grammar topics like verb
tenses, noun-adjective agreement, sentence construction, negation, and pronouns into clear, digestible lessons that build confidence.
Yet, grammar is always integrated into practical application through conversations, role-plays, and writing tasks that mirror everyday life—ordering food, asking questions, or sharing stories—helping students understand how grammar functions in context.
Lessons are interactive and student-centered, encouraging learners to describe pictures, talk about their days, and discuss future plans, reinforcing vocabulary and grammatical concepts in engaging ways. Visual explanations and pattern recognition strategies deepen understanding, while regular review ensures material retention and steady progress. To enrich learning, I incorporate French cultural elements such as films, music, holidays, and cuisine, helping students appreciate the language’s broader cultural significance.
One memorable moment involved assisting a student struggling with French literature; through patient explanation and consistent conversation practice, the student shifted from confusion to curiosity and enjoyment of reading. Technology is an integral part of my teaching toolkit—using quizzes, audio tracks, apps, and personalized homework to facilitate independent study and provide tailored feedback. My ultimate goal is to empower students to communicate confidently and cultivate a lifelong passion for French language and culture.
