About Fiona
As a native Mandarin speaker with a Bachelor's degree from a Canadian university and years of professional experience working within Canadian higher education, I bring a rare blend of linguistic authenticity and Western academic rigor to every session. This dual background means I not only understand the subtle nuances of Mandarin that textbooks miss, but I also know exactly how English-speaking brains process Chinese grammar and tones—so I can preempt your struggles, explain concepts in ways that actually click, and guide you with the same patience and clarity I've honed supporting students in university settings. You're not just learning from a native speaker; you're learning from an educator who has been professionally trained to teach across cultures.

In our sessions, you won't just memorize vocabulary—you'll actively use it in real-life scenarios, from ordering street food to debating travel plans, so that speaking feels instinctive rather than rehearsed. With a sharp ear for tone correction, patient encouragement, and a knack for explaining those "untranslatable" cultural quirks, I create a judgment-free space where mistakes become your biggest breakthroughs—so you gain not just language skills, but the genuine confidence to actually use them.
