About Matt
I excelled in studying History, Politics and Economics at A Level before going on to study History at the University of Leeds. I graduated with a 2:1 and then spent a year training to be a teacher with GORSE SCITT in Leeds. I achieved Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with distinction and was also awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
For the last year, I have worked full time as a Teacher of History at a local secondary school in Leeds. I was responsible for managing nine different classes, several of which were GCSE classes and also enjoyed the responsibility of being a form tutor.

My teaching methods, first and foremost, centre around engaging students with History by utilising a wide range of activities and resources. I recognise that each student has different areas of strengths and weakness and I am skilled at personalising lesson content to suit individual needs. I also believe that it's incredibly important students learn to think critically and develop their analysis skills independently, and so I place a large impetus on questioning in my lessons as well as students carrying out independent practice.
Fundamentally, my goal is to build a high level of confidence in students by honing their knowledge, analysis and critical thinking. I believe that a confident student gets more enjoyment out of the subject and is also more likely to produce the required knowledge and skill to succeed in an exam situation.
