About Ellyse

Hello! I'm Ellyse. I've been helping primary and high school students to thrive at school since 2015. I can teach any primary school subject as well as any English, Biology, History, Social Studies, Japanese and any other humanities subject at high school.

About me:
I graduated high school in 2010 with an OP1 and finished among the top of my class in English, English Extension, Biology, Modern History, Japanese and Philosophy & Reason. And in 2018 I graduated from a degree in Languages and Linguistics at Griffith University with a GPA 6.68 out of 7. Since graduating uni I've been working as an educational writer (so I know how to structure an essay!), and as an English teacher and tutor in Japan and Australia.

My tutoring experience:
In 2015 I started working for a private tutoring company. There, I tutored primary and high school students who were struggling with English and other humanities subjects, as well as students who were already doing pretty well at school but wanted to go from a B to an A. My students thrived during our time together and many went from Ds to As. It would be my pleasure to help you or your child reach their potential at school.

Prior to actually teaching, I like to sit down with my students and establish what their goals are. Then, we work out a study plan and lay out our mutual obligations. This might look something like the student making a commitment to have X amount of homework completed before our next lesson, and me remaining available via email or phone if they need help throughout the week.

Next, we focus on our goals for that session together. I am an open communicator, regularly check in with my students to see how they're feeling about the content, and am very patient with them. I try my best to make lessons fun and engaging and tailored to their specific interests. That brings me to my next point...

I think something that makes me unique as a tutor is that I strive to develop healthy, mutually-respectful relationships with my students. The way I see it, my role is to give my students the support they might not be getting at school. I don't approach teaching in the same way that an authoritarian teacher might. In my experience, students get better results if their tutor is someone they can trust and turn to if they're struggling with their school work. So, I remain friendly, open and spend time getting to know my students while remaining clear about my expectations of them and holding them accountable to their commitments.

Another big part of my teaching strategy is learning not only the class content, but learning HOW to study. It can be really overwhelming to start a new assignment or finish a mountain of homework. So, I think it's really important for students to learn how to plan their study time and approach their homework and assignments in a step-by-step manner.

For the last 6 years I have been doing my best to help other students out there to feel empowered in their education and achieve their goals. Get in touch to arrange a trial lesson and let's see how high your grades can go!
