About Raymond

I’m a software engineer with over 20 years of coding experience — but my journey actually started as a graphic designer. That design background taught me to think creatively and pay close attention to detail, skills that still shape how I build products today. I began my engineering career in marketing agencies, creating everything from websites and web apps to iOS applications. But my real journey took off when the pandemic hit — I took a leap of faith and joined a startup in NYC. That bet paid off: we were successfully acquired by a major social media company. After a few years there, I joined another NYC-based startup, continuing to learn and grow in fast-paced, high-stakes environments. I’m also a former adjunct instructor at LCCC, where I taught mobile software engineering and 2D animation. Teaching gave me a deep appreciation for helping others understand complex concepts and build confidence in their skills. Along the way, I’ve gathered insights into what it really takes to succeed as a software engineer: how to pass tough technical interviews, write code that scales and impresses, and thrive in different types of teams and company cultures. I’m excited to share everything I’ve learned — not just so you can ace your classes or interviews, but so you can become a confident, standout engineer ready for any challenge.

Ready to level up from just “getting by” to truly standing out? I offer personalized tutoring sessions designed to help you master not just coding fundamentals, but also the real-world skills that set top engineers apart. Here’s what we’ll cover (and tailor to your goals) (Code Reviews & Feedback) Learn why code reviews matter, how to handle feedback constructively, and how to write code that earns respect from peers and future colleagues. (Core Software Engineering Principles) Go beyond syntax — understand design patterns, clean code practices, scalability, and maintainability, so you can build things that last. (Interviewing Skills & Prep) Demystify the entire interview process — from technical screens and take-home assignments to system design and behavioral rounds. We’ll practice together to build confidence and strategy. (Using AI in Coding) Learn how to effectively “vibe” code with AI tools (like Copilot and ChatGPT), when to trust them, and common pitfalls to avoid so you stay in control. (Taking Your Projects to the Next Level) Turn a basic project into a polished portfolio piece — improve architecture, add real-world features, and learn how to present it to impress professors or interviewers. (Industry Insights) Understand what it’s really like working at an agency, a fast-moving startup, or a big tech company — and how to prepare for each environment.
