About Adam
Hi! I'm Adam, and I would love to work with you. I am a gap year student living, working, rowing and running in the North East of England. I have been in state schools all my life, and hold accessibility to education as a core belief - after taking a gap year to attempt becoming a 2-time Oxbridge Medicine reject, my aim in tutoring is to help as many people as possible reach their full potential.
Beyond academics, I love sport. I'm usually running on the local moors, or more likely out rowing/coxing on the Tyne. In fact, rowing has become a bit of an obsession... I race internationally and have my own independent coaching start-up. Otherwise, I'm usually having a nap or planning various travel exploits.
I pride myself on patience, understanding and empathy, having held several safeguarding roles in the past - mental health is a keen interest - and in both tutoring and coaching, I believe cooperation with the student is essential. We will start with whatever base you're at and we'll help you set, work towards and achieve goals you may not see as possible right now. Please get in touch, and we can get started right away!

Lessons last up to 90 minutes, and whilst the specific topic is coordinated with the student beforehand, generally lessons will work as follows.
For Chemistry and Biology:
- Structured walkthrough of a pre-agreed content area, focused on verbal confirmation of learning using repetition and helping the student "teach" this back to the tutor
- Completion of guided exam questions on this topic
- Marking and review of these exam questions
- Setting homework and next steps
As a gap year student, I sat my A-levels last summer and took the UCAT twice, after declining my first round of offers to give me more time to mature. My GCSEs were 9 9s, my A-Levels (Biology, Chemistry, Maths) were A*A*A* with A* in EPQ. My UCAT scores, each achieved with 6 weeks revision, were 2370 B1 last year and 2560 B2 this year. Although I haven't tutored formally yet, I have 5 years experience teaching rowing to Y9+ and have my own rowing coaching business, as well as rowing internationally.
