About Marcel
Having had a very successful career in tech, I consider myself semi-retired and am now all about using my time and skills in meaningful ways. While I like to work on open-source projects and do volunteering, I enjoy mentoring and coaching as a fun side gig with positive impact :)
I've got a degree in Computer Science, used to compete in algorithm competitions, and have helped multiple people land jobs at Google & Co. I've got a lot of experience around Web and Android development, and the languages I'm most familiar with are Java, KotlIn, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python and PHP.

My sessions are all about helping you achieve YOUR goals, so they will look very different depending on what those goals are and where you're currently at. During my seven years at Google I've helepd many people succeed in their career, but what an apprentice needs to succeed is very different from what a Senior Software Engineer needs. One important distinction I like to make is between mentoring and coaching:
- Mentoring is mostly about knowledge transfer. It's about teaching you the fundamental concepts and identifying gaps in your understanding, so that you'll be able to apply them yourself going forward.
- Coaching is all about helping you to help yourself. Maybe you're already an expert in a subject, possibly even knowing more about it than me. But you'll probably still benefit from talking things through with someone who has a lot of experience in the wider field and is able to ask the right questions. Coaching can help you gain clarity, especially if your goal is ambiguous and doesn't have a single right answer.
