About Oscar

I'm a sixth form student who achieved eight grade 9s and two 8s at GCSE, including 9s in Chemistry and Physics. Although I've chosen humanities subjects at A-level, Chemistry is the subject where I made the biggest progress, improving from a 5 to a 9 in a year.

I have plenty of experience working with young people: over 80 hours volunteering at a youth centre, coaching at a children's tennis camp, and peer mentoring at my school, for which I've completed safeguarding training.

I sat these exams recently, so I know what students are going through and how to make the subject feel manageable. I'm patient, encouraging, and genuinely enjoy helping students reach the grade they're capable of.

I achieved a grade 9 in Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry, having been at a grade 5 at the end of Year 10. I know exactly what it feels like to find Chemistry hard, and exactly what it takes to turn that around.

In the first lesson, I'll find out which topics and question types are costing your child marks. From there, we work through them step by step, with a particular focus on the areas students most often struggle with: calculations, practical-based questions and longer written answers.

Past papers are free online, but most students use them badly: they check the answer, see they got it wrong, and move on. In lessons, I go through each mistake with your child, explain exactly why the mark was lost, and teach the technique that wins it back next time. That's what took me from a 5 to a 9.

Many marks come down to techniques that apply across lots of topics, like knowing exactly what examiners want when a question says describe, explain or evaluate, or how to set out a calculation so they still earn method marks even when the final answer is wrong. Once your child has these, they pick up marks all over the paper.

After each lesson, I'll set a short practice question so your child keeps improving between sessions, and I'll give feedback on it next time.
