About Mary
I’ll never forget this one. First day, first class. I was supposed to observe for the first week or so, before I jumped in. They don’t do it like that anymore, but it was 1997. I was in the back of the room with my notebook. A kid leaned over to me and said, “Pssst…who are you?” I said, “I’m Andy…um…I’m Mr. Richardson.” I’d never been Mr. Richardson in my life before. It was kind of neat. Even now, I’m generally referred to as Mr. R, Mr. Rich, and by one student as Mr. MC Richie-Rich, but generally don’t encourage that last one. :)

The best way to learn anything will happen only when you are able to listen patiently and attentively. You need to listen to him/her like he/she is the first person on the earth. While I was on one of my trips, I met unknown people. I listened to their stories. And that made me learn some valuable lessons.
