About Samantha

I have been a middle school math teacher for 5 years and understand what works and what doesn’t when it comes to math education. I strive to make learning math fun, engaging, and something that you look forward to! I am confident that by working together we will exceed your goals as a student and make meaningful connections.

About the lesson

I have taught middle school math for 5 years (both in person and remotely) and have finally understood how to make math fun and easy to understand. I use productive struggle techniques while teaching my lessons because I understand the importance of using prior knowledge to help solve current problems. A typical lesson in my 7th grade math class would look like this: students are welcomed to class and I have a photo on the board. I read off a paragraph describing what’s happening in the photo to launch the lesson and engage the students. Then I have students get into random groups and work with one another on a series or problems that have been thin sliced to get progressively harder and build on one another. At the end of the lesson I have students take their own meaningful notes.
