I have been a qualified Primary School teacher for over ten years, and have worked in three different primary schools. I currently teach at a school in the East Midlands, United Kingdom.
I am a Year Group Leader and receive a Teaching and Learning Responsibility (TLR). I currently work part time since having my own children, but previously held the position of Literacy Leader, and was on the Senior Leadership Team. In a previous school I was also Maths Coordinator and Year 5 / 6 leader.
In 1997, I was awarded a 2.1 for a BA Honours History Degree, which I studied at Portsmouth University. After 6 years administrative and managerial experience, I changed career and studied the Graduate Teacher Programme, through Newman College, Birmingham, gaining QTS in July 2005.
I think teaching is an incredibly rewarding career, and love making a difference to children.
As a Primary School teacher, I am expected to teach any subject to well above age related expectations but I am particularly interested in teaching English and Maths. The current curriculum has increased focus on the importance of grammar, which I feel has given me a better understanding to teach English as a foreign language.
