About Joseph
I can help students anywhere from middle school through high school on topics including, but not limited to, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and physics. I have tutored at my school’s learning center for a while, and I want to continue this path outside of my school!
As a tutor, I want to focus on building students’ real understanding of complex concepts. To do this, I plan on giving real-world visualizations to help break down the material. I adapt to each student’s learning style—whether they need step-by-step structure or more conceptual explanations. I try to focus on practice-oriented learning, as practice makes perfect!
A typical lesson plan would include the following;
- Get to know the student before meeting
- Communicate about what the student is struggling with before meeting so I can prepare
- Quick Review of past material
- Address weak points in the students' capabilities/knowledge
- Guide student through practice problems that I prepared
- Independent try + feedback for the student
I recently learned this material myself, so I understand exactly where students struggle. I have a strong background in math and physics, allowing me to connect ideas across subjects. I want to make the student confident in his/her ability to understand the material and complete problems on their own. Since I am younger, I hope to be able to relate to the students' struggles and treat them more as an equal rather than a student!
