About Carol
I have over 10 years of experience teaching piano, music history, and music theory to students aged 4 through 64+ both privately and at music schools in Toronto and Montreal. I am currently pursuing an Artist Diploma in Piano Performance at the Université de Montréal, where I also received my Master's Degree in Piano Performance. I earned my Bachelor's Degree with Honors from the Eastman School of Music, where I double majored in piano performance and music theory. While at Eastman, besides getting top marks on my music history classes, I also undertook additional training in Western visual art history, music composition, and German language. I received my Associate Diploma in Piano Performance with First Class Honors with Distinction from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), and also achieved First Class Honors in all my history and music theory exams at the RCM. Besides performing and teaching music, I am a published writer and composer. Currently, I regularly write articles on topics ranging from music history to music appreciation for the Canada-wide music magazine, La Scena Musicale.

Do you want to gain your appreciation of the music you love by learning about its meaning and historical context? Or perhaps, are you preparing for a music history or theory exam at school? I can help you, no matter what your goals. We will devise a tailored lesson plan aimed at your unique needs. Each class will be filled with musical examples that leap off the page, as well as interactive activities and questions guaranteed to expand your musicianship and curiosity. Together, we can take a journey from the dawn of Western music to present day. I can show you why and how a piece is so great, connect the dots between your favorite composers and the socio-political events of their day, and reveal why Beethoven is still relevant to us 200 years later. The result: You will gain an even stronger love of music and more importantly, you will have learned the ever-useful skill of knowing HOW TO LISTEN.

As a music teacher myself, Carol is a peer whom I highly respect. She not only has an encyclopedic knowledge (both general and music-specific) and total command of the piano, but she is also passionate about teaching to which her years of experience testify. In each lesson, she is able to lead her students to think outside the box and make creative and insightful connections. Regardless of where one might be in his/her studies, I highly recommend to anyone who wishes to take music lessons to do so with Carol.
