I am a former educator of all levels , all areas of Social Studies and History. I have taught 6th Grade World Cultures, 7th and 8th Grade Early U.S. History, Geography, World History, Antiquities, Government, and AP U.S. History ( 11th Grade). I also worked with helping design curriculum, instruction on the reading of primary source documents, composing essays, and executing test strategies, map and graph readings. I am also certified in ELAR and ESL.
As a side note, my hobbies include Music ( classically trained), playing the guitar and piano, philosophy, archaeology, traveling , martial arts and chess.
For years I taught 6th, 8th, and 11th Grade History and Social Studies, including AP U.S. History -As far as pacing for the semester, I pretty much adapt the pacing of the State of Texas Curriculum. This allows me to align my practice for the sake of tutoring students in preparation for State exams, and the like. However, I can tutor or help any student from any state with any work they may need. For example, if you are in Pennsylvania , 11th Grade U.S. History and you are studying the Guided Age, I can more than help to make sure you understand the significance of the roles of the major players, the Rockefeller, Vanderbilts, etc. If you are an 8th Grade student, preparing for an end of the year exam, I used to teach History interventions, so I am well acquainted with not only the material, but many of the testing strategies as well. I use a blend of lectures, the Socratic method ( Q&A), and online games ( such as Kahoot, Quizzes, Jeopardy) Also, I have access to many online resources, former released state exams, maps, quizzes, AP essay assignments, primary source documents, etc). That is as far as History goes. As far as Archaeology/Anthropology, I am non-degrees, but it has been a passion and hobby of mine for YEARS. My specialty lies with the ANE ( or Ancient-Near East, the Babylonians, Assyrians, and Syro-Palestinians) - I have a great knowledge of this field as a general rule ( I used to study SOME Akkadian, that was fun), and I can write your name in Egyptian Hieroglyphs ( pointless skill, but entertaining). I can teach you about famous Archaeologists - Schliemann, Petrie-Flinders, Kathleen Kenyon, etc the difference between Artifacts, and Features ( sites) how Pottery assists chronology, etc.and provide loads of resources to cater to such interests) I will provide a typical lesson plan on here shortly) For the sake of tutoring , I will meet you where you are at. For example, if you are a Texas student preparing for the end of the year State Exam , and you are covering Reconstruction ( post-Civil War), I will use many released Exam Questions, and Resources from various Textbooks, Clips from the History Channel where we will apply the Socratic Method ( Q&A- See Law School Process) and then apply them to the questions asked ( and apply testing strategies). We will also use games such as Jeapordy, Quizzes and Kahoots ( all making the learning experience a lot of fun) If you are a 10th Grader in Pennsylvania, in World History and find interest in the Roman Empire- Then we will be covering the Punic Wars, the Roman Republic, the Rise of the Empire under Augustus, and the Julio-Claudian dynasties. The lesson will be tailored to the context requested. However, in the case of continuous lessons, I usually use the Texas Curriculum Pacing Guide for events in American History combined with the chronology of American Presidents. For World History it's less sequential due to the nature of various cultures on various continents
I am a retired teacher of 18 years, having taught 6th Grade World Cultures , 8th Grade U.S. History, 10 Grade World History, 11th Grade On Level and AP US History, and Government. Aside from this, I have multiple online certifications, and extra training in History, Global Architecture, and Archaeology.
