About Xueyao

Hi, my name is Sher Zhang, and I’m here to help you unlock the joy of playing the guitar! With a Grade 10 qualification in guitar and over two years of teaching experience, I’ve guided students to incredible achievements—one passed their Grade 10 exam with excellence, and another earned admission to Melbourne University’s prestigious music program.

I teach guitar because I believe music can change lives. It’s not just about learning chords and melodies—it’s about discovering confidence, creativity, and a way to express yourself. My goal is to inspire students to love music as much as I do and help them achieve their personal goals, whether it’s playing for fun, mastering an exam, or performing on stage.

What makes me stand out? Well, I’m patient, approachable, and, not to brag, but I’ve been told I’m pretty good-looking too! (Don’t worry, I’ve got the skills to match the charm!) My lessons are fun, engaging, and fully personalized to your needs. I even include creative games and a reward system to keep things exciting and motivating.

If you’re looking for a guitar teacher who’s talented, passionate, and easy to connect with, I’d love to help you on your musical journey. Together, we’ll make learning guitar an experience you’ll always enjoy!

About the lesson

1. Flexible Lesson Plans
Customized Duration:
I offer different lesson lengths (30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 1 hour) based on the student’s age, skill level, and learning objectives. For younger students or beginners, shorter and more frequent sessions help maintain focus and build foundational skills.

Structured Learning Path:
Each lesson is carefully planned to include:

Warm-up exercises (e.g., finger stretching, simple scales)
Core practice (chords, rhythm, melody, or advanced techniques)
Fun song practice using pieces that match the student’s interests and abilities.

2. Fun & Interactive Activities
To keep lessons engaging, I incorporate music-related games such as:
"Chord Bingo" to learn and memorize chords.
"Guess the Song" to train the ear.
Rhythm clapping games to improve timing and coordination.
These activities make learning fun while reinforcing essential skills.

3. Reward System to Motivate Progress
I’ve designed a rewards program to encourage consistent practice and progress:
Small rewards (like stickers or certificates) for weekly achievements.
Larger milestones (like reaching a new skill level or mastering a song) are celebrated with a performance video or a mini recital for family and friends.
This system builds confidence and keeps students excited about learning.

4. Individualized Goals and Focus
Beginners:
Focus on building a solid foundation—holding the guitar correctly, basic chords, strumming, and rhythm.

Intermediate and Advanced Students:
Tailored lessons to help with Grade 10 preparation, advanced techniques, improvisation, or even creating original compositions.

Special Goals:
For students aiming for auditions or competitions (like applying for music schools), I design targeted lesson plans, including performance coaching and exam preparation.

5. Student-Centered Scheduling
For busy students, I offer flexible scheduling to fit their availability.
Younger children may benefit from shorter, more frequent lessons, while older or more advanced students may prefer longer, in-depth sessions.

My Teaching Philosophy
I believe learning music should be a joyful experience. By combining structured lessons with creative activities and a strong motivational system, I aim to help every student discover their unique potential and develop a lifelong love for music.
