About Shafaq
Hi! I’m Shafaq, a Bachelor of Arts Honors graduate in Law from Carleton University. I have previous experience as an online tutor and currently work with students through the Ottawa Catholic School Board.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with students of different ages, learning styles, and abilities, which has helped me become patient, adaptable, and comfortable working with students who may need different levels of support. I especially enjoy helping students work through something they initially find difficult and seeing them become more confident with it over time.
I’m friendly and approachable, but I also take my students’ progress seriously. I want students to feel comfortable during our sessions while still getting meaningful academic support. Whether a student needs regular tutoring, help with homework and assignments, or some extra support staying organized and on track, I’m happy to adjust our sessions to what they need.

I believe every student learns differently, so I try to adjust my lessons based on each student’s needs and learning style. I like to explain concepts in a clear and understandable way, break down anything they may be struggling with, and make sure they feel comfortable asking questions along the way. My lessons can include support with English, reading, writing, homework, assignments, study skills, and organization. I can also help younger students with elementary-level subjects and general homework support.
I have previous experience working one-on-one with students as a tutor, and I currently work with students through a school board. Through these roles, I’ve worked with students with different learning styles, abilities, and academic needs. This has taught me that the same approach doesn’t work for everyone, so I try to be patient and flexible depending on what works best for each student.
Usually, I start by seeing what the student is currently working on and what areas they are finding difficult. From there, we work through the material together, practice it, and spend extra time on anything they need more help with. I want my students to understand what they’re learning rather than simply getting through their homework or assignments.
Most importantly, I try to create a comfortable and encouraging environment where students don’t feel embarrassed about making mistakes or asking questions. My goal is to help them improve academically while also becoming more confident and independent in their work.
