About Andrea
Born in Auckland, NZ, Andrea graduated from the University of Auckland in 2004 with a Bachelor of Music, where she received the university’s Arts and Culture award for excellence in music performance in both 2003 and 2004. She furthered her studies at the University of Waikato with an Honours degree in cello performance under James Tennant, receiving especially high marks in chamber music. In 2008, she was awarded the Greta Ostova Violoncello Scholarship and completed a Masters degree at the University of Auckland. That same year she went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where she joined the class of Karine Georgian and Raphael Wallfisch. She also studied orchestral works with BBC Philharmonic cellist Peter Dixon, and performed in many of the school’s orchestras and chamber groups before obtaining her Masters of Music (RNCM) degree in 2010.
A passionate performer of chamber music, she has performed at various international chamber music festivals including Te Anau Music festival, Charterhouse International Music Festival, London Thames Music Festival, Vilnius Chamber Music Festival, the Notting Hill May Fest, and has also performed at the NZ Embassy in Paris with a NZ piano quartet. She is now one-half of the cello duo, Cello2ette, in London.
As a dedicated cello educator, I am passionate about advancing students' musical journeys, teaching a wide range of ages and skill levels. I am well-versed in the ABRSM syllabus for cello and experienced in preparing students for examinations, always fostering both a love for music and technical mastery in cello playing.

My philosophy on instrumental teaching is providing an inspirational and enjoyable experience for my students that will enhance their musical journey and enrich their musical training and development. I aim to provide each student musical understanding and develop reliable technical skills, enabling them to progress well. Understanding the psychological side of training, I believe in providing positive feedback and support for my students, helping them to develop their own musical identity, and catering for their individual needs.
With over 20 years of private and instrumental class teaching, I have a sound understanding of the practical environment of musicians in their formative and mature years. I have gained the flexibility to work with any age group.
I am compassionate towards my students and offer healthy learning skills to make each student gain the best in themselves and enjoy music making to the best of their ability.
