About Henry

Hi, I’m Henry. I’m a maths graduate who self-taught my way to the University of Cambridge. Since graduating I've worked in tech, tutoring in a successful school and have just started a Masters degree in Pure Mathematics. Over the years I’ve privately tutored over 20 students with consistently great results: - average improvement in A-level and GCSE results of 3.5 grades per year - a 75% success rate supporting Oxbridge admissions - a 100% success rate supporting admissions to at least one Russell Group University As well as support for A-levels and GCSEs I also provide specialist support for the MAT and the STEP Oxbridge entrance exams, as well as interview prep and mock Oxbridge interviews.

About the lesson

My learning philosophy emphasises depth of understanding. That’s the key to accelerating your learning and it also makes Maths fun! Maths is a beautiful subject but no-one enjoys just memorising formulae and methods. We'll get to the bottom of both how and why things work; nourishing your interest, consolidating your understanding and making you a better mathematical thinker. Lessons usually start with a quick starter question on a topic we've recently covered, to consolidate your learning and make sure we don't have to keep returning to the same misunderstandings. The main portion of the lesson is then extremely flexible: often I'll explain a new topic providing lots of intuition and examples followed by practise questions of increasing difficulty, sometimes you'll come to the session with lots of questions of your own and we can spend the time working through those. Whatever's going to provide the best use of your time. Informed by my experience of the Cambridge supervision system I always encourage as many questions as possible and I'd rather guide you to finding the answer yourself than telling you what to think. The extra short term effort more than pays off in the long run.
