About Umaiorubagam

Hello! I'm Umai, a medical student from NI. I have previous experience in teaching as a chemistry mentor at school. I find it incredibly rewarding to help people understand complex concepts in a simple way. In my opinion, learning is a process that should be engaging and fun for students. This is why I try to collaborate with students using novel teaching methods instead of going the old school way!

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to your current level, goals, and exam board. Whether you’re aiming to boost grades, strengthen weak topics, or prepare for exams, I adjust the pace and style to suit you.

What a Typical Lesson Looks Like
• Quick review of previous content
• Clear explanation of new topics
• Worked examples (step-by-step)
• Exam-style questions with guidance
• Tips on common mistakes and how to avoid them

I focus heavily on exam technique, helping students understand why marks are awarded and how to structure answers efficiently under time pressure. Having recently been through A-levels myself and now studying medicine, I understand exactly what examiners expect and where students commonly struggle.

My teaching style is clear, structured, and supportive, designed to make difficult topics feel manageable rather than overwhelming. I believe learning works best when students feel comfortable asking questions. I encourage curiosity, break complex ideas into simple steps, and reinforce understanding through practice.

Feel free to message me to discuss your goals or ask any questions. I’m happy to help you create a clear plan to improve your grades and confidence.

As a parent, I am extremely pleased to recommend Umaiorubagam as an outstanding tutor for Chemistry and Maths. From the very beginning, Umai impressed us not only with strong subject knowledge but also with a calm, patient, and highly encouraging approach to teaching.

Lessons were always well-organised, focused, and productive, with a good balance of understanding theory and applying it to exam-style questions.

As a medical student, Umai brings a strong academic mindset and excellent discipline, which clearly reflects in the way lessons are structured. Thanks
