I have been tutoring students through one-hour sessions for the past two years. My approach is highly personalised, as I work alongside each student to identify their weakest areas and tailor lessons to their individual needs.
I usually begin with a short quiz covering a range of topics across the specification, which helps me identify gaps in their knowledge. I also encourage students to tell me if there is anything they have found difficult or would like to revisit from school lessons, ensuring that the session focuses on areas where they would benefit most.
A key part of my teaching is helping students understand how to effectively answer exam questions. I teach mark-scheme-specific terminology and techniques so that students can clearly demonstrate their understanding and maximise the marks they achieve. I use my own resources alongside past-paper questions from Physics & Maths Tutor to reinforce their knowledge and, importantly, ensure they are confident applying what they have learned to exam-style questions.
I also adapt my lessons depending on where the student is in their GCSE journey. For students approaching mock or final exams, I introduce more past-paper practice and focus on exam technique, timing and addressing recurring mistakes. For students who are earlier in their GCSE course, I place greater emphasis on building a strong understanding of the content and developing their confidence.
