I like to put an emphasis on oral skills in language learning. Part of the lesson would be focused just on oral skills - if students are comfortable speaking in class, they’ll get more practice and ask more questions. Another part of the lesson will be focused on grammar. I try to make grammar as accessible as possible - too often it is dry and tedious (a student’s worst nightmare). I would assign reading passages as homework and ask the student to read it to me and I will ask if there are any unfamiliar words or grammar structures that we can discuss and work on.
