About Alasdair
What can I teach you?
Great teachers translate a love for music to their students, and that’s what I hope to give you! Whatever music you bring, from my lessons we go into depth about the music, whilst also gaining valuable feedback on technique. I help my students to search for a beautiful sound that feels physically good when playing.
What are my lessons like?
Lessons are laid-back in atmosphere- we don't have to be playing all the time! Some of the best work is done off the cello, and I'm more than happy to spend time discussing aims, direction and all things musical or otherwise!
Why me?
What I can offer you is a uniquely detailed approach to learning the cello in a relaxed atmosphere. While technique is essential, I place a strong emphasis on musical understanding and storytelling. I like to dive into the phrasing, character and reasons behind the music.

I help each student build a technical foundation while learning music they enjoy. Whether your interests are classical, folk, film, rock, jazz, or pop, lessons are shaped around the repertoire that inspires you. My aim is to help you play with confidence and enjoy making music. Many of my students are surprised by the progress they make in just one term.
Lessons are available in 30-, 45-, or 60-minute sessions for all ages and abilities. Whether you're preparing for exams, playing for enjoyment, returning to the cello after a break, or starting from scratch, each lesson is tailored to your goals.
