About Lee

In my private studio and in my work as a performer and teacher with community, cultural, and academic organizations on four continents, I have walked alongside thousands of students over the last 25 years as they find their way in new voice types, discover new approaches to use with their own students, complete academic research projects, step onto professional stages, and much more! Over the course of my career, I have earned the following credentials: Ph.D., Musicology (Texas Tech University) Graduate Certificate, Early Music Performance Practice (Texas Tech University) M.A., Voice Performance (Ball State University) B.A., Voice Performance (Olivet Nazarene University) Certified Trauma-Informed Coach (The Center for Healing) Professional Certification in Fundamentals of Neurodiversity (Florida State University) Professional Certification in College Student Wellness, Trauma, and Resilience (Florida State University)

About the lesson

Every singer adds a unique value to this changing world, and I have the wonderful opportunity to walk alongside you as you discover and recognize that value, explore new approaches, and organize those discoveries as creative choices for your future music-making.

Entering a studio that prioritizes trauma-, disability-, and justice-informed orientations, you maintain ownership of your vocal journey as you dream, design, and deliver results. In our work, you connect your purpose to the sounds you make, find confidence and security in your technique, and extend the artistic choices you have at your disposal. We walk together as you:

* connect who you are, sounds you make, and sounds you want to make
* watch, listen to, and learn from other musicians more creatively and more meaningfully
* breathe, shape vowels, and navigate your range in sustainable ways
* craft your artistry unique to each style and context

Lessons are collaborative and include exploring what has been working most effectively for you, articulating and organizing your experiences and discoveries, and identifying action steps beyond the lesson.

Perfect! Lee is (obviously) very experienced and knowledgeable - I especially appreciate his effort to get to know me personally and his ability to tailor exercises and approaches to what works for me.

Lee's response
Rodney has an innate musical sensibility, a deeply connected self-awareness, and considerable familiarity with principles of vocal production. He has had sound training! Rodney's willingness to explore freedom in his body and extend the kinds of tricks he has up his sleeve brought his voice to life in new ways as we worked together, and I look forward to hearing what emerges as he continues with the next steps in his vocal journey.

Lee's response
I thoroughly enjoyed working with Eric: he offered valuable information about his musical experience, direction, and goals prior to our lesson, arrived thoughtfully prepared for navigating the possibilities of that direction, and explored our activities together with a sense of purpose and curiosity. I look forward to working together again.
