About Melissa

As an English teacher in Seoul, I taught elementary and middle school students at Chung Dahm Institute, spent a year at a Korean middle school under the Seoul Ministry of Education's English program, and 4 years at universities. I still remember one of my
very first students thanking me for helping her get a very competitive position at IBK, a well-known Korean bank!

About the lesson

I taught English (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) to Korean students for six years while living in Seoul. The most important goal for my students was for them to gain confidence and be okay with making mistakes; it's a a big part of the learning process! I enjoy teaching using real-world materials, and helped tutor a nun in conversational English while she was working on her PhD. In universities, my students got to "learn by doing" through working on plays for departmental English festivals and I even had a chance to design my own class based on the popular American show, "The Amazing Race." For their final exam, students from Sungshin Women's University had to design their own "Sungshin Race!"

Perfect!

I have known Melissa for almost 10 years, and the one overarching theme to her teaching has been to instill confidence in her students and that she modifies her teaching style to suit the individual learner and does not expect the learner to adapt to a rigid style of teaching. Melissa's passion for teaching is unsurpassed in my opinion and whomever hires her as a tutor will surely learn a great deal.
