About Toni Laura
Hi, I'm Toni. I'm a part-time Politics and French student at Bristol university and due to start my masters next year. Originally from Austria, I moved to the UK at an early age and have loved learning about different cultures and our society ever since. I have been tutoring on and off since early 2020, originally as a volunteer, and have truly enjoyed every second of it. It's very rewarding to see someone else successfully apply a concept you have explained to them. I would love to support you or your child in realizing your full potential! I have completed four full A-Levels and an EPQ (all A*-B) and have a total of over two years of active tutoring experience, as well as a term as an English teacher in a French primary school and kindergarten in late 2020. I believe in giving my students a lot of time expressing what they think and what they have learned. When I worked in a French primary school I learned about something called Teacher Talking Time (which we want there to be less of) in my English as a foreign language classrooms and I have happily applied this to my other language students in French and German. I believe it's really important for me to guide my students in what they do, but ultimately the science of learning shows us that talking, practicing and making mistakes are what gets us to the next level! I am actively studying French and Italian and have studied English in the past. I have also dabbled in Hindi and Scottish Gaelic during my free time. I can therefore truly relate to the frustration of making mistakes, but I will support you every step along the way! Together we can unlock your language skills. (:
I also believe in evoking curiosity by linking new content back to your interests. I have always succeeded at finding topics that the student is really interested in. Languages relate to our everyday lives in many ways. If you enjoy politics you might be curious about how a language and its dialects are regulated by the political powers of that country. If you like history we can talk about the history of the language I'm teaching you! "Even" grammar can be fun if you find the right approach to it.
I will do my best to tailor my lessons to your individual needs, so my teaching style will differ from student to student! Just tell me what fits your learning style or we can figure it out together by trying different approaches.
