About Elizabeth
I am a native of Colombia. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Foreign Language Teacher with a Major in Teaching English and Spanish as Foreign Languages and a Minor in Teaching French as a Foreign Language. I have been teaching for 17+ years. I have taught Spanish at the elementary and middle school level. I have also tutored high school students preparing for the AP Spanish test, as well as adults who want to improve their conversational skills and/or their knowledge of Spanish grammar. I also have vast experience in teaching English as a foreign and second language which has given me a great understanding of the learning and acquisition of languages. It has also given me essential knowledge that I have been able to apply to the teaching of Spanish to native speakers of English.

As I mentioned, I have taught Spanish in elementary school from pre-K to 5th grade. I have also taught Spanish I, II and III at the middle school level where students earn these high school credits through the Honors Program. I learned a great deal from these experiences about working with young learners and utilizing their creativity and enthusiasm to learn to help them have a positive experience learning Spanish while making sure they received a strong foundation that would help them be successful in the advanced Spanish courses. As a Spanish tutor with high school students and with adults, I was able to expose my students to the culture, literature, and social issues of Hispanic communities around the world, while strengthening their proficiency in the language. As far as my teaching methodology, I like to involve students in their own learning experience. I like to help them identify how they learn best and how they can improve. I believe in active learning, and I want my students to be full participants in their learning. I like to use different types of resources from songs, literature, language drills, to movies. I use technology and interactive tools as much as possible, but I also know the benefits of direct instruction.

Elizabeth is an amazing teacher who is able to differentiate instruction in order to accommodate the needs of her students. She is fluent in Spanish and English, and I have witnessed her "magic" in grammar, writing, and literacy instruction. Elizabeth and I have co-taught English and ESL English together for four years--during the regular school session and in the summer. I would not hesitate to recommend her for teaching and tutoring opportunities. You will be very pleased.
Elizabeth is amazing! She is passionate about her students and will go above and beyond to make sure they are learning classroom lessons and life lessons. I highly recommend her as I know she would be an asset to any program.

I typically have to travel long distances to a tutoring location so my rate includes the cost for travel. Students must cancel at least 6 hours in advance to be able to reschedule a lesson at no cost.
