About Catherine

Hi! My name's Catherine and I'm a Maths and Physics tutor with three years of experience tutoring high school students. I achieved A1s in Maths and Physics Advanced Highers and was awarded a Dux medal at the end of high school.

My priority has always been to build a good relationship with the student because we learn best when we are relaxed and happy! I see myself as a mentor more than a tutor. It has not been too long since I was in the same position as the students so I have a good understanding of the SQA requirements and how to study effectively.

About the lesson

I have found that tailoring my teaching approach to the individual students is the most effective way to help them learn. I normally start by offering as much support as the student needs then, over the weeks, encouraging them to work more independently.

My lessons usually last 1 hour and could include:
- Looking at homework that the student brings.
- Working through practice questions together.
- Trying exam papers.
- And anything else that could be helpful!

I tutor Maths from S1 up to Higher level and Physics from S1 to N5 level.

Catherine supported my daughter with her Nat5 Maths. Catherine is a fantastic tutor who engaged very well with my daughter. Catherine was thoughtful of my daughter’s needs, patient, and knows the material inside out, I can’t imagine a better tutor for my daughter. It was our first time using online lessons Catherine helped guide us through the set up and my daughter really enjoyed doing the lessons from the security of her own room.
Catherine was flexible with scheduled lessons, when we required to change a lesson time and date for holidays all in all it was a very positive. My daughter and Catherine got on very well and we are extremely grateful for her assistance. On the personal side, Catherine comes across as a lovely person to talk with and learn from and I would highly recommend her if your child is looking for tuition.

Helen

Catherine was a great help to Ella as she worked on the building blocks of National 5 Maths. Ella found her to be a patient and engaging tutor who took great care to ensure she had acquired a thorough understanding of a topic before moving on. She is a great communicator, always willing to answer questions with clear explanations. Highly recommended!
