  • When did you develop an interest in your subject and in private tutoring?

My interest in English developed from my love for communication, storytelling and helping people express themselves confidently. I have always enjoyed working with words and finding creative ways to explain ideas. My journey into private tutoring grew naturally from my experience teaching English and working with children. I discovered that I especially enjoy one-on-one teaching because it allows me to understand each learner’s strengths, challenges and learning style and provide personalised support.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach English, with a focus on helping learners develop strong communication, reading, writing, grammar and speaking skills. I particularly enjoy reading comprehension, creative writing, vocabulary, grammar, figurative language, direct and indirect speech, pronunciation and reading aloud.

I especially enjoy creative writing because it gives learners the opportunity to use their imagination while developing their language skills. I also enjoy helping learners who struggle with grammar because I like breaking difficult concepts into simple, understandable steps.

I don't really have a topic I dislike teaching. Some topics may initially be challenging for learners, but I enjoy finding creative ways to make them easier and more interesting.
  • Did you have any role models? Perhaps a teacher that inspired you?

Yes. I have been inspired by teachers who understood that teaching is about more than simply delivering information. The teachers who made the greatest impression on me were those who were patient, encouraging and able to make learners feel capable.

This has influenced my own teaching style. I want my students to feel safe asking questions, making mistakes and trying again. I believe confidence is an important part of learning.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs patience, empathy, adaptability and strong communication skills. A tutor should be able to recognise that every learner is different and adjust their teaching approach accordingly.

I also believe a good tutor should be encouraging and observant. Sometimes a learner's difficulty is not simply about understanding the subject; they may lack confidence or be afraid of making mistakes. A good tutor should help them overcome those barriers while still maintaining clear academic expectations.
  • Could you share an anecdote related to your subject or your student days?

One of my most rewarding tutoring experiences was working with a learner who was struggling with English and had previously scored below 50%. Rather than focusing only on correcting mistakes, I worked on both the learner's academic skills and confidence.

We practised consistently, broke difficult concepts into smaller steps and used positive encouragement throughout the lessons. With continued effort, the learner improved to 79% in a class assessment and eventually achieved 80% in the moderated/final assessment.

That experience reminded me that sometimes the first thing a learner needs is someone who believes they can improve.
  • Did you face any difficulties at school or university?

Like many students, I experienced subjects and situations that challenged me academically. These experiences taught me the importance of persistence, asking questions and not being discouraged by temporary difficulties.

They also helped shape the way I teach today. I understand that learners can sometimes feel frustrated when they don't immediately understand something. Instead of making them feel inadequate, I encourage them to see mistakes as part of the learning process.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, an element of this particular subject, or something completely different?

My passion is helping people discover their potential through learning and creativity. With English, I particularly enjoy helping learners become confident communicators.

I love seeing the moment when a learner finally understands something that previously seemed difficult. I also enjoy creative work, storytelling and visual communication, so I try to bring creativity into my lessons whenever appropriate.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

What makes me a Superprof is my combination of teaching experience, patience, creativity and genuine commitment to my learners. I don't believe tutoring should be about simply completing a syllabus. It should be about understanding the learner, identifying their needs and helping them make meaningful progress.

As an educator, I aim to create lessons that are structured but engaging, supportive but purposeful. I want every learner to leave a lesson feeling that they have learned something new and, just as importantly, that they are capable of learning even more.
