About Gary
I have played chess recreatoinally and competitively (USA chess rating 1750) on and off throughout 50 years, teaching it to my sons and assisting them throughout their journey (now rated 2000 and 1500 on chess.com).
For me chess itself is just a hobby, albeit a profoundly useful one, but not a purpose in life. I am seriously passionate about mentoring and teaching, I hope you will quickly see as your child quickly improves while sharing the joy of this unique game.

Chess is a versatile hobby with educational benefits. It teaches logic, strategic planning and taking responsibility for own decisions. Yet at its core it is a game to be enjoyed by people of almost all ages and particularly children. In short. it needs to be fun but for a serious purpose.
I can teach chess an engaging, immsersive way that make the lessons fun and interesting, but also informative and thoughtful; using a wide range of acitivities like puzzles and games to do so and active analysis afterwards with comprehensible explanations to maximise efficiency.
My lessons are for children 5-18, from absolute beginners to about 1500 rated.
