About Alex
I have recently graduated the University of Manchester, obtaining a 2.1 in pharmaceutical science. During the course of my degree, I learned a great deal about the human physiology and how medicinal substances, genetic diseases, micro-organisms and a range of other factors can influence and change conditions within the human body.
Since graduating, my most notable position is my current role as a teaching assistant in a special education and needs department in Co-op academy North Manchester. In this role, I have gained valuable insight into how classes are effectively run as well as maximising pupil engagement. I assist teachers in a range of subjects but my specialty knowledge lies in Science.

My methodology for teaching is based on targeted questioning and information retention. It is one thing to say that you have taught a subject to a pupil but it is another to say that the pupil has understood the lesson. I find it very important to constantly assess a pupils understanding, finding out where the areas of strength and weakness are and in turn building on the weaker areas and compounding the stronger ones.
I also believe in is crucial to teach exam technique as pupils may have an understanding of an overarching topic but not pick up marks in an exam because of poor exam technique. Practicing past paper questions not only ensures subject knowledge, but also trains pupils to hit the key points that will allow them to gain the highest possible marks in tests and exams.

I studied at university with Alex and would absolutely recommend him as a tutor. He is incredibly patient, knowledgeable and kind, and is able to explain things in multiple different ways to ensure understanding. He has experience working with secondary school-aged children of a variety of abilities and will be able to adapt his teaching to an individual child's needs to help them get the best out of their learning.

Details
I would prefer to teach GCSE level students but I am happy to take on a few AS and A-Level students too. In terms of cancellation, I would provide at least 2 hours notice if I was unable to attend and would expect at least 30 minutes warning from the pupils side. I am happy to give phone number and other contact details to parents to allow for an easier avenue of communication.
