About Sumaira
With a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering and advanced degrees in Physics, I bring both depth of knowledge and years of experience to every tutoring session. I currently work as a researcher at the University of Colorado Boulder, where analytical thinking, precision, and curiosity are central to my daily work. These same qualities guide my teaching approach. I’ve spent years tutoring students from diverse educational backgrounds, both in-person and online, through international academies. My focus is always on building understanding — not just memorization, so that students develop genuine confidence in their abilities. Whether you’re preparing for exams, tackling advanced coursework, or trying to strengthen your foundations, I’ll guide you with clear explanations and structured learning strategies. Professionalism and consistency are at the heart of how I work. I prepare thoroughly for each session, communicate clearly, and provide a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new ideas. My goal is not just to help you perform better, but to help you think like a scientist, critically, creatively, and confidently. If you’re looking for a tutor who combines real research experience with a passion for teaching, I would be honored to help you reach your academic goals.

Hi! I’m a materials scientist with a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, along with Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Physics. My academic journey has taken me from South Korea, where I completed my PhD, to my current role as a researcher at the University of Colorado Boulder. Along the way, I’ve worked with students from around the world through international academies, helping them master complex scientific concepts and develop confidence in their learning.
What truly sets me apart is that I understand learning from both sides, as a scientist and as someone who thrives on curiosity and challenge. Because I have ADHD, I bring an energetic, adaptive, and highly interactive style to every session. I love keeping lessons dynamic and tailored to each student’s unique way of thinking. Whether you’re struggling to understand the fundamentals or aiming to excel in advanced topics, I can help you connect the dots and truly enjoy the process.
I specialize in physics, materials science, math, and related subjects, but more importantly, I specialize in making difficult topics feel approachable, logical, and even exciting. Tutoring, for me, isn’t just a side job; it’s how I keep learning alive every day.
Let’s turn your challenges into discoveries together.
