About Michael

Hi, I'm Michael. I hold a PhD in Physics from Columbia University, where my research focused on experimental physics and advanced detector technologies. Prior to that, I earned my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Physics, building a strong foundation in both theoretical and applied physics. I have over five years of teaching and tutoring experience at the undergraduate level. As a teaching assistant at Columbia, I led discussion sessions and lab components for courses such as Classical Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Modern Physics. I was responsible for explaining difficult concepts, guiding students through problem-solving techniques, preparing quizzes, and grading assignments. I also provided one-on-one support during office hours, which honed my ability to tailor my explanations to different learning styles and academic backgrounds. In addition to my formal teaching roles, I have tutored high school and college students in mathematics and physics across all levels. I also mentor undergraduate researchers in data analysis and programming, particularly in Python and scientific computing applications. About the lesson

As Michael, I believe physics and mathematics should be intuitive and engaging, not intimidating. My teaching method focuses on building genuine conceptual understanding through real-world analogies and step-by-step problem-solving techniques. I adapt my approach to each student's learning style, whether you're a visual learner or prefer hands-on practice.
Each lesson begins with reviewing previous concepts and addressing questions. We then explore new material through guided discovery, where I help you develop intuition before diving into mathematical formalism. Practice problems are solved collaboratively, emphasizing the "why" behind each step.
What sets me apart is my ability to provide comprehensive study materials. When requested, I create textbook-style PDF documents containing step-by-step solution breakdowns, formula summaries, and conceptual overviews that serve as valuable reference guides for continued learning.
My lessons cover algebra, calculus, differential equations, classical mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and modern physics. I work with high school students through graduate level, including AP Physics preparation, undergraduate physics and engineering coursework, and advanced graduate research topics.
