About Simon
I have worked in professional advertising photography for more than 25 years, both as a photographer and as a Photoshop retoucher, primarily on the London circuit. Over the last six or seven years I have been teaching degree students digital skills at Derby University, Oxford Brookes and NTU in Nottingham. I am passionate about photography and digital retouching & manipulation! I teach digital workflows from capture in camera, through Lightroom and Photoshop to print or screen and can help you with every aspect of your photography. I concentrate on real-world, practical skills, not geekery. (Ok... there are a few geeky things we need to know...) Acquiring key digital skills will advance your photographic understanding and creativity and give you a head start before going to university or just improving your hobby. Photoshop and Lightroom are subjects that can be effectively taught remotely. You will need a decent broadband connection, a reasonable computer, a laptop will do, and a copy of the software you wish to study. I prefer to teach beginners and intermediates, before they learn bad habits. I will not only teach you practical skills but efficient working methods learnt by working with these applications in a professional context for many, many years. Simon taught me Photoshop, Lightroom and digital photography (macro lens). He took me as a novice and made me into a professional photographer which I am today. A very approachable tutor with a vast wealth of knowledge he is happy to share.He makes the more complex parts of learning easy to understand and will happily explain in a variety of ways that will help you overcome any technical difficulties you may encounter.
Simon taught me Adobe Photoshop and studio lighting at the University of Derby, I can completely recommend him as a tutor, he was very well thought of by students for his professionalism and the patience he showed by sitting with each student and thoroughly explaining things.
