Professional Illustrator, Fine Arts Graduate offering realistic painting and illustration lessons. From basic portraits to high quality artwork

I used to shade basically everything the same way. Tadeo showed me how to separate the light family from the shadow family first, and then worry about the smaller changes. Very simple idea, but nobody had explained it to me like that before

I used to start every illustration by drawing the main character immediately. Tadeo basically made me stop doing that. We started with tiny thumbnails and experimented with cropping, silhouettes and where the viewer's eye would go. My final drawing was actually much easier because I had solved the difficult decisions beforehand

I thought I was pretty good at drawing objects until we did a really simple still life. I realised I was drawing what I thought a cup looked like instead of actually looking at it. Tadeo had me focus on the negative spaces first, then the proportions and values. Such a basic exercise but it completely changed my way of seeing things

The landscape lesson was lovely. We barely painted any individual trees, which surprised me. Instead we focused on big shapes, atmosphere and where the strongest contrast should go. My old landscapes were basically collections of objects. Now I’m thinking more about the whole image

I kept getting stuck because I thought I needed the perfect reference before I could paint anything. Tadeo encouraged me to start with an idea and then use references only for the parts I needed. We played around with lighting and composition and ended up with something completely different from my original sketch. I liked that a lot. It felt more like actually creating something instead of copying a photograph

My goal was quite specific: I wanted to draw fashion figures that looked elegant rather than anatomically stiff. We worked on elongated proportions, gesture, clothing folds and the way fabric follows the body. I also learned how much the pose itself contributes to the feeling of a fashion illustration. It was very different from the anatomy exercises I had done previously

I’m 16 and mostly interested in drawing monsters and characters. At first I thought the anatomy lessons would be boring, but they ended up being the most useful part. Tadeo showed me how understanding the skeleton and muscles lets you exaggerate creatures without making them look random. He also gave me ideas for practicing between lessons, which helped a lot.

I stopped drawing for almost twenty years. I was nervous about taking a class because I assumed everyone else would be much more advanced than me. Instead of making me feel behind, Tadeo started from the problems I was actually having. We worked on observation, proportions and simplifying complicated subjects into basic shapes. It was surprisingly enjoyable to rediscover something I had forgotten I loved.

I expected anatomy to be difficult, I’ve watched countless anatomy tutorials where someone draws a perfect muscle diagram and then I immediately forget everything. Tadeo approached it differently. We started with simple forms and movement, then gradually added the anatomy on top. Suddenly shoulders, hips and the ribcage started making sense as structures rather than a collection of muscles. It completely changed the way I approach figure drawing.
