About Erica

From an early business in babysitting, I went on to get my bachelor's degree from the University of Saskatchewan and then completed my Early Childhood Education certification from Saskatchewan Polytechnic. After working in preschools and childcare settings, I moved with my husband to the USA as he pursued graduate studies. While there, we welcomed our 4 children into the world. The school catchment we lived in was not great, so I began intensively researching homeschooling options and delved into the teachings of Maria Montessori. I looked after other small children and created a Montessori-style classroom at home. I loved teaching my children to read and mixed Montessori methods with the All About Reading curriculum. I then began tutoring students in China online. This has given me ample opportunity to hone my tutoring skills with children of a wide variety of ages and abilities in an English immersion classroom. I have received thousands of positive reviews from parents and praise for my patience and ability to engage students through a small window on the computer screen. I added Barton Reading and Spelling curriculum to my offerings in 2021 in order to help those who struggle with dyslexia. To continue learning and better serve my students, I trained in Reading Simplified and EBLI, which I now use exclusively. Lit Up Literacy can help people local to Fredericton, NB and around the world for English reading and spelling remediation.

Explicit and evidence-based reading and spelling instruction. Improve basic reading, phonics, and decoding skills along with comprehension, fluency, and spelling. One-on-one tutoring to help students reach their learning goals. We are patient and passionate about reading and look forward to helping students of all ages, identities, nationalities, and abilities learn to read in a fun, supportive environment.
