About Kelsey

I’m a professional singer with many years of experience singing pop, jazz, folk and contemporary music of all kinds. I love variety and welcome whatever you would like to sing. I’m also a songwriter and perform, record and release my own music. I started singing while working as a performer in the theatre world.

I’ve since been a session singer for film and television soundtracks, including celebrated composer Jocelyn Pook's soundtrack for Stanley Kubrick's 'Eyes wide shut'.

My first job in pop music was touring as a backing singer with pop band The The. My vocals feature on a number of albums by the wonderful experimental art-pop band The High Llamas.

Alongside all of this, I've been teaching singing lessons for thirty years and very much enjoy seeing singers progress.
The human voice is extraordinary in its capacity to move and inspire us, and the singing of songs is a special form of communication which I feel so privileged to work with. Each person I teach has something unique to offer.
I am a member of the UK Natural Voice Network and use a natural voice singing teaching approach.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching is fun, physical and freeing.
I aim to help you sing the songs you want to sing with freedom and ease. I’ll be helping you learn more about your range, and how you can extend it. It’s great to know where your voice is at its best so that you can feel confident and really shine.

We will work with excercises to bring more ease with the breath which is the foundation of your voice and the key to a natural and effortless vocal tone.

Tools will be given for ear training and pitching with excercises and songs to build muscle memory and dexterity.

I’m all about the song, so the largest part of the lesson is normally dedicated to helping you with the song(s) you are working with. However, songs do not have to be the focus. Whatever it is that you are wanting to look at, I’m very happy to tailor the lesson to your vocal needs.

Lessons are at my studio in Penzance, Cornwall or online. They can be 30 mins to 1 hour and take place weekly or fortnightly.
Whatever stage you are at with your voice and your singing, I would love to work with you! Singing lessons really can enhance your life.
I have a lot of experience of working with unconfident singers and absolute beginners. I also teach advanced and professional singers

My experience equips me to help with all kinds of Popular music; Jazz, Folk, World music, Musical Theatre - or your own original songs!
Young students have gone on to study singing/songwriting/musical theatre and I have a great track record of giving singers of all ages the confidence to sing out in the community.

Other areas of expertise include offering songwriting support and mentoring.

I think a year or more ago as a complete newbie to singing I wrote a review here for Kelsey…take a look if you are new to singing and wanting to take that first step to finding your voice…Kelsey has been brilliant from the get go and I can’t recommend her highly enough.

Update alert! So, having continued regular lessons with Kelsey that professionalism and enthusiasm has not diminished; with patience, kindness and unstinting good humour Kelsey and I have worked together and lo and behold I’m not only singing regularly with Kelsey’s singing groups but also finding my way with another local choir which I’m finding challenging but with Kelsey’s support feel on my way to cracking! So to say I’ve come a long way is an understatement but I really can’t take the credit (apart from doing my bit by singing my way thru my ‘homework’!) it’s down to Kelsey who has given me the confidence to explore my voice and embrace whatever emerges! All those years of not singing….seriously, don’t delay getting in touch with Kelsey if you recognise yourself here. It was honestly the very best thing I could have done for myself and singing now brings me so much joy and connection with the local community as well as finding new friendships along the way. Happy singing! Ali

I was looking to develop my singing and am so pleased I found Kelsey. I’m not naturally confident in my singing abilities, but Kelsey has been thoughtful, encouraging and very in tune with what I need to work on and develop.

I genuinely look forward to my weekly lessons and can feel both my confidence and singing improving with each session. Kelsey creates a supportive and relaxed environment that makes learning enjoyable.

I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to develop their voice and grow in confidence.
