About Erica
I’m a Chapman University graduate with a degree in Screenwriting, a professional writer, and have three years of experience tutoring students in grades 6–9. I’ve worked with students one-on-one as well as in group settings through expeditionary and experiential learning, with a focus on English, literature, essay writing, reading comprehension, and creative writing.
I believe a great tutor should be equal parts knowledgeable, patient, and adaptable. Every student learns differently, and I take the time to understand what works for each individual creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking creative risks, and building genuine confidence in their abilities.

I take a creative, hands-on approach to tutoring, adapting each lesson to the way an individual student learns best. A typical session might include breaking down a reading together, brainstorming and outlining an essay, strengthening a thesis, or workshopping creative writing. Rather than simply correcting answers, I want students to understand how they got there and develop skills they can use independently.
I specialize in English and the liberal arts for students in grades 6–9, including academic essay writing, literature, reading comprehension, literary analysis, and creative writing. I also have experience working with students with ADHD and use creative and experiential techniques to make difficult or intimidating material more approachable.
As a professional writer with a degree in Screenwriting from Chapman University, I bring a storyteller’s perspective to learning. Whether we’re analyzing a classic novel or figuring out what a student actually wants to say in an essay, my goal is to find the way into the material that clicks for them—and make learning engaging and, dare I say, fun.
