About Ray
I'm a software developer who has over 10 years experience in the industry working for Google. I achieved the University Medal in Computer Science for my studies at Sydney University. I also achieved 2nd place in NSW in the HSC Software Development course. I have knowledge of a wide variety of technical areas.
I love programming - particularly the experience of building something the comes to life in front of you. Professionally, I've spent much of my career working on the Chrome web browser for Google. It has been exciting to work on software used by so many people.

I'm starting to provide tutoring for kids who want to learn programming using Scratch ((concealed information) Scratch is a programming language designed for kids that is very fun and easy to learn. Programming is immensely useful and will equip kids with skills they will use even if they enter careers that aren't primarily tech focused.
I particularly enjoy seeing students come to learn how to program for the first time. Programming can be an extremely rewarding skill to develop and, as such, one of the goals of my lessons are that they're enjoyable as well as educational.
The session we will start with getting on the same page with the student and parent about the student's current experience level, as well as their goals and then forming a plan as to how we want to try to tackle them. After that, content will vary depending on the desire of the student. A typical lesson might involve recapping the progress of the student since the last session, a deep dive into a particular growth area including practical tasks and then a setting of goals to work toward before the next session. Lessons will typically always involve application of skills in practice.

Contrary to what you might expect from a software engineer, Ray is both very intelligent and very articulate. He has the rare ability to explain complex concepts in terms that beginners can understand and appreciate (maths and physics are not my strong suit!). Ray is a patient and dedicated person who wants to see his students grow. You can tell that he genuinely enjoys programming.
